Washington County Fair 1 and Feature ImageAt the heart of every county fair is the local community and traditions. Washington County is no different as they aim “to cultivate an appreciation for agriculture by educating visitors about their rural heritage.” Just one hour north of Albany in Upstate New York, the Washington County Fair is home to a one of a kind Farm Museum that gives visitors a firsthand view at what farm life in the 1800’s was really like. The exhibit features the McKinney Feed Store, an authentic cheese and butter churning station, and an old time milk wagon and cider press. Right next door to the farm exhibit is the Perkins Hollow School House which is a real one room school house that was in use from 1853 – 1910. Along with these historical events, the fair is also home to the animal, produce, food, and arts exhibits you come to expect, plus the Washington County Fair Pro-Rodeo which has quickly become a favorite of fair visitors.

Although much of the Washington County Fair is rooted in the past they make sure to keep in touch with the current world. This can be seen in their slogans; “Remembering the old and offering the new”. To them this means two things, keeping up with recent technologies and helping the new generation understand where we came from and how to move forward. To show their dedication to new technologies they host an event called “Agriculture Science, Communication, and Leadership” that focuses on how agriculture can move forward and optimize production using the newest technologies in their field.

To show their dedication to the next generation they hold a fair camp every year. The fair camp takes their campers around and gives them a tour of all the exhibits while also introducing them to some 4-H groups they could potentially join. The camp aims to educate the younger generation that doesn’t always know where their food is coming from or how it is made while assisting them in making valuable connections in the community.

This year we are proud to be part of the Washington County fair by providing them with ground level storage and office containers. The cargo containers will be used to house equipment to keep the event running smoothly. We are always happy to help and be part of great things right here in upstate New York.
